Sony launches new HD Cameras in India

Mumbai, Jun 6 (UNI) Sony, the world's leading electronics giant, launched its long awaited High-Definition (HD) range of digital cameras today.

The new cameras comprise of three models under the company's DSC Cyber-shot series, and four models in its stable of HDR Handycam series.

The glamorous event, with models displaying the products, was spearheaded by the new MD of Sony India Mr Masaru Tamagawa.

The main USP of the HD format is its vastly improved image quality. It gives 4.5 times more clarity than conventional (standard definition) digital cameras. This has enabled the HD format to rapidly penetrate the global market with 56 per of households availing the format in Japan, and 39 per centin the US. The HD technology has been pioneered by Sony since the late 70s' which will hope to stamp its position as the market leader in crowded consumer electronics market.

In India, Sony is aiming for the niche market where the customer has the taste and means to purchase a product like the HD camera. It is targetting approximately 30 per cent of the estimated one million unit digital camera market for this year.

The new range will be retailed in its 250 outlets and 21 branches, with its after sales services carried out from its 172 authorized service stations.
