Shivpuri bypoll results to be reviewed: Chouhan

Badwani (MP), June 6: Reiterating that the electoral defeat received by the BJP in Shivpuri assembly by-election would be reviewed, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said several times local issues affects poll outcome.

Talking to reporters here today, Mr Chouhan pointed out that the BJP had emerged victorious in several by-elections recently.

Replying to a question over the choice of candidate, he said the decision was taken after broad consensus was reached within the party keeping in mind local circumstances.

Regarding the BJP's 'Mission 2008' in view of state assembly elections next year, Mr Chouhan said his sole mission was the welfare of public and he was striving to accomplish this goal.

He pointed out that the last assembly elections had been fought on the issue of water, power and road. The achievements of the BJP in these areas were for in front of everyone.

The Chief Minister said the welfare works undertaken by the state government and its achievement in the areas of water, power and road would be the major poll planks during the next assembly elections.

Regarding cabinet expansion, Mr Chouhan said the exercise would be carried out soon.

Denying irregularities in the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojna, he said concerned officials had been asked to exercise alertness in this regard.

He said the government has invited foreign investors after providing for necessary infrastructure in terms of road, power and water. As a result, an investment of Rs 48,000 crore was done in the state in the past one year.

He said MoUs worth over Rs 6,000 crore were inked during the recently-concluded Agro-Business meeting.

Mr Chouhan hoped that the Global Investors Meeting to be held in October would produce expected results.

He said he heard complaints regarding corruption during his 'Jandarshan' programme and punished guilty officials. He had strict action was taken against 45 officials after they were proved guilty.
