Seed producing cooperative committee to get Rs 500 grant
Bhopal, June 6 (UNI) In order to encourage seed production in Madhya Pradesh, the state Government has decided to increase the grant to seed producing cooperative institutions from Rs 300 per quintal to Rs 500 per quintal.
Cooperative Minister Gopal Bhargava today said the grant will be provided to those committees which were member of seed producing cooperative marketing association.
The purpose was to ensure that good quality seeds reached farmers.
Presently, 20 seed cooperative committees are producing 2 lakh tonne seeds for rabi and kharif crops.
For increasing seeds production, 75 per cent amount would be given to seed producing cooperative societies and 25 per cent to seed producing and marketing association.
Mr Bhargava said seeds produced by the former would be available for marketing within the state.
In case, production exceeded the demand within the state, seeds would be exported to other states after obtaining permission from the Director (Agriculture).
He said all assistant registrars had been directed to form seed producing cooperative institute in every block and get it registered.
