Nashik, June 6 (UNI) The Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC)'s mayoral elections will be held on June 15.

Divisional Revenue Commissioner Sanjay Chahande will preside over the special session called for the election, informed Kalyan Kelkar, chief election officer, yesterday.

All the political parties here are trying to form new political equations to get the coveted post of mayor. Among them, the most important are the alliance between the Teesara Mahaj (Indian Muslim Congress Party) and Shiv Sena. The Shiv Sena has left behind its strong Hindutva ideology to gain power and is trying to forge an alliance with Teesara Mahaj. The IMCP has 26 seats of its own and has the support of one independent, while the Shiv Sena has seven seats.

On the other hand, arch rivals MLA Rashid Shaikh of Congress and Nihal Ahmad of the Janata Dal have joined hands. The Congress has 15 seats and the Janata Dal has 12 seats.

The Samajwadi Party has not decided yet on supporting any side. In this situation, the role of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the independents have become important for both the alliances to get entry into power corridors of the MMC.
