Militants who killed cops gunned down in Asom

Guwahati, June 6 (UNI) Two suspected militants of the KLNLF have been killed in an encounter with police in Karbi Anglong district.

Karbi Anglong SP Anurag Tankha told UNI that based on information about movement of KLNLF militants in the village Sarpo Tisso and Mon Tokbi under Dillai outpost, a search and ambush operation was launched by Karbi Anglong Police last night.

While the police team was laying an ambush, some suspected movement was noticed. A group of suspected extremists opened fire on the police team.

Later, during a search of the place of occurrence after the encounter, two bodies of extremists in camouflage uniform and a 9 mm pistol with ammunition were also recovered from the spot.

The other members of the militant group, however, managed to escape.

Police suspected that the deceased belong to the group of KLNLF extremists who were involved in the June 3 attack, in which four police and home guard personnels were killed in the Koilapahar area.
