Mayawati's attack on BJP 'unwarranted' : BJP
New Delhi, Jun 6 (UNI) Taking exception to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's 'unwarranted attack' against the BJP in the Rs 175 crore Taj Corridor scam, the party today said that the denial of permission by the state Governor to prosecute her will be seen as a quid-pro-quo between Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Asked about Mayawati's charge that the BJP was responsible for the instituting the Taj Corridor case, party Spokesman Prakash Javadekar claimed the two parties -- BSP and the Congress had an understanding even during the elections ''Such actions will only be confirming popular perception,'' he said, alleging that the UPA government had started employing a novel mode of scuttling cases by using the Law Ministry.
Earlier, Mr Jsvsdekar charged the UPA of scuttling the case against Bofors kickback beneficiary Ottavio Quattrocchi and allowing defreezing of his London bank account at a time when the CBI was wanting to proceed. ''Now also, the CBI feels they have a case against Mayawati but the UPA is scuttling the case using the Constitutional office,'' he alleged.
He said the CBI probe into the Taj Corridor case was initiated at the behest of Supreme Court and one has to wait and watch its reaction to the Congress and BSP's 'political compromise' to help each other.
