Srinagar, Jun 6 (UNI) Medical employees of Jammu and Kashmir have put forth a list of demands, which included risk allowance, to the government for overall improvement in healthcare in the state.

Medical Employees Federation (MEF) presented the list of demands to state Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma during a day-long convention at Sri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital here.

MEF chief spokesman B A Ganai said the demands included abolition of contractual recruitment policy, equal pay for equal work, review of recruitment rules, provision of accommodation for hospital staffers, filling up of vacant posts, promotion of class IV employees, risk allowance and creation of posts at different levels to cope up with increasing workload in all hospitals of the state.

The Minister later said the state government would give due consideration to the demands of the medical employees. The matter regarding regularisation of ad hoc employees was under active consideration of the state government, he added.

About contractual appointments, Mr Sharma said it was a common problem of different departments and would be taken up at the highest level in the state government.

He said the demands regarding removal of pay anomalies, amendment of recruitment rules would be discussed at a meeting between representatives of employees and the government functionaries.

The Minister also assured of promotion avenues for class IV employees according to their qualification besides convening of periodical DPCs to avoid stagnation at different levels.

He said the employees were the backbone of the government and they should play a pivotal role in successful implementation of welfare programmes launched for the people.

Mr Sharma appreciated the employees for their role in serving people during turmoil in the state.
