India seeks more trade in agro-products with UAE

New Delhi, June 6 (UNI) Seeking more trade in agro-products with United Arab Emirates (UAE), Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath said India's top priority for exports to UAE is vegetables, fruits, processed foods and poultry.

Agreeing with the Indian Minister during an interaction with him here today, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said they were keen on investing in India's economy, including the agriculture sector.

He, at the same time also disclosed that less than one per cent of all UAE's investments were in India.

The UAE Minister also concurred with Mr Nath's suggestion that a delegation from Agriculture and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) can visit their country to discuss the possibilities in food and agriculture sector with the importers in the UAE.

The two Ministers also discussed the possibility of setting up laboratories in India for testing the quality of food exports to meet the UAE's standards.

Trade between India and UAE was 12.9 billion dollars in 2005-06.

Exports from India were valued at 8.59 billion dollars, while imports were worth 4.31 billion dollars.
