Bangalore, June 6 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today modified its interim order and permitted admission of students in nursing colleges and schools for the academic year 2007-08 subject to conditions.

Chief Justice Mr Cyriac Joseph and Justice B S Patil, while hearing the suo motu writ petition moved by the Kerala Human Rights Commission Chairman regarding mismanagement and misappropriation of funds by the numerous nursing colleges and schools in Karnataka, modified its interim order dated April 19, 2007 and permitted 251 institutions which were given provisional recognition by the Karnataka Nursing Council (KNC) to admit students for the current year.

These 251 schools were further directed not to admit in excess of the intake mentioned by the Karnataka Nursing Council and to obtain suitability certificate as per the provisions of the Indian Nursing Council Act from the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and to produce the same before the Karnataka State Nursing Council within three months from today.

The Court directed the KNC to file a report in the court regarding the compliance by the institutions about the condition of obtaining the suitability certificate. Those institutions which had not obtained the said certificate were directed to make an application before the INC within a week as per Rules and the INC was directed to ensure that the inspection was conducted and the certificate was issued within 10 weeks from the date of receipt of the application.

The permission to admit students for the year 2007-08 was clarified as subject to the condition that the institution would comply with the conditions imposed while granting provisional recognition to them by the KNC.

The other colleges were also directed not to admit students in excess of the permitted number of intake and that the admission was subject to conditions. The court further made it clear that the institutions specified in its order alone were permitted to admit students and the restrictions imposed in its order dated April 19, 2007 continued to bind the remaining institutions.

The matter was posted for further hearing on June 27.
