Haryana takes steps to combat Malaria, Chikengunya

Chandigarh, Jun 6 (UNI) The Haryana Health Department has set up 14,134 Drug Distribution Centres (DDCs) while Fever Treatment Depots (FTDs) are being set-up in high risk areas of the state so as to combat Malaria, Chikengunya and Dengue.

Also, Rs four crore were being spent for the conduct of spray operations in the state, Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Health) Urvashi Gulati said while addressing a meeting of the State Level Malaria Committee here. Ms Gulati said apart from setting up of special 'malaria clinics', arrangement for collection of samples and treatment of fever cases were available at all public health institutions and these services were available free of cost.

She said the DDCs were set up for early case diagnosis and prompt treatment of the patients.

Ms Gulati said spray operations of Malathion had already started in rural areas from May 16. Fogging with tech-Malathion for source reduction in urban and semi-urban areas has also started whereas spray of Delta Malathion in high risk area would be done across the state.

As many as 105 spray gangs, with five members each, have been recruited to ensure regular and good quality uniform spray.

Ms Gulati said with a view to combating Malaria, Chikengunya and Dengu, an integrated 'Anti-Malaria Campaign' has been launched.
