Govt to soon commence work for new Assembly complex: CM
Chennai, June 6 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government would float global tenders and soon commence work for building a new Assembly complex at the government estate here, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said today.
Talking to newspersons at the Secretariat, he said he held detailed discussions about the project with Local Administration Minister M K Stalin, Public Works Minister Duraimurugan and senior officials and decided to seek tenders at the earliest.
He said the foundation stone for the new complex would be laid soon after the finalisation of the tenders. He replied in the affirmative, when asked whether global tenders would be floated for the project.
Mr Karunanidhi had made an announcement about the new Assembly complex on the occasion of his golden jubilee in the state Assembly.
Replying to a question, he said the historic Rajaji Mandapam and the new MLA hostel complex located in the government estate, would be spared, while other old structures like the old MLA hostel would be demolished to pave way for the new complex. The total cost would be worked only after the plan was ready, he added.
Asked whether he had already conceived a structure in his mind, he said only after the plan was ready he would be able to suggest changes and additions in the complex.
