Evolve consensus on quota parametres: BJP
Chennai, June 6 (UNI) The ruling DMK's reported move in Tamil Nadu to provide reservation to religious minorities would lead to more ''complications and competitive politics'', BJP spokesperson and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad claimed today.
Talking to newspersons at the BJP state headquarters here, after being appointed as party-in-charge of Tamil Nadu affairs, he said the BJP favoured an all party meeting to evolve a consensus on the parameters based on which a community should be given reservation.
''According reservation to Muslims and Christians for political mileage will further complicate and confuse the fabric of democracy.
All political parties should evolve a consensus on the issue so that only the oppressed class get due reservation. Muslims and Christians were never an oppressed class in India,'' he said.
On Tamil Nadu, he said his main focus would be to strengthen the party's base in the state and increase the party's State representation in the Lok Sabha.
''We will strongly bid for power at the Centre in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. We want Tamil Nadu to have a good representation in the government led by the NDA next time,'' he added.
