Ranchi, Jun 06 (UNI) Demanding special Central funding to Jharkhand for developmental activities, the CPI(M) today said it will oppose adoption of Urban Land Ceiling Repeal Act, 1999 in the state.

Party's state secretary Jyan Shankar Majumdar told reporters here that acceptance of Repeal act would adversely affect the rights of the tribals on their land, whereas adoption of the Act would have impact on pending cases in High Court related to illegal occupancy of land, mainly of the tribals, by the land grabbers.

So far Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Gujrat, Karnataka, Orissa Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh had accepted the Act.

Mr Mazumdar said party had also demanded to cut short the 12 per cent interest rate on Central loans adding that it was more than any nationalised bank.

The CPI(M) had also alleged that the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission, 1999, was full of anomalies.

He said JNURM includes conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural one, which would affect the livelihood of farmers.

Referring to district-wise notification of ST areas, including Ranchi, Gumla and Simdega districts, the CPI(M) leader said this would have an impact on land related Acts like Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act and Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act.
