Centre should bring bill in the parliament over delimitation:CPM
Ranchi, Jun 07 (UNI) The CPI(M) today said parliament should bring an amendment bill in the monsoon session to maintain a status quo of the SC/ST Assembly seats of Jharkhand.
Talking to reporters here, CPI(M) state secretary Jyan Shankar Majumdar said registering protests against Delimitation Commission (DC) was of no use as the commission had its own limitations adding that the amendment could only be done by bringing a bill in the parliament.
Mr Majumdar also said according to constitutional provisions number of reserved seats would be fixed on the basis of 2001 census and only parliament had the right to bring any amendment in this regard.
Meanwhile, the political parties including Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch had announced to protest during the DC's public hearing on June 9 and 10 in the state.
Yesterday, the state government had convened an all party meeting to discuss the issue, where it was unanimously decided to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President A P J Abul Kalam and apprise them regarding the situation.
