Badal calls for de-pollution of Budha Nallah

Chandigarh, June 6 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today called for a time bound blueprint for permanently un-choking of one of the state's major arteries, the Budha Nallah course.

Mr Badal who chaired a comprehensive review meeting on the two major environmental projects on the Budha Nallah and holy Bein rivulet, said that the paucity of funds would not be allowed to hamper the progress of these projects and state bureaucracy would be held firmly accountable for the scheduled completion of this project.

The Chief Minister has asked the Science and Technology department to prepare a self contained proposal for seeking special funds from the Centre for these two projects.

On the occasion a presentation on the cleaning of Budha Nallah and holy Bein project was made to the Chief Minister by the Principal Secretary, Science and Technology, P Ram along with Executive Director of Punjab State Council for Science&Technology (PSCST) N S Tiwana.

It was informed in the meeting that Ludhiana city produces the maximum sewage and heavy toxic metals that flow into Budha Nallah.

Mr Ram urged the Chief Minister to direct the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to issue strict guidelines to ban discharge of sewage into Budha Nallah. He also asked the PPCB to strengthen its scientific staff to monitor the industry in Ludhiana and to ensure compliance with the standards prescribed by the Board.

He also informed that a team of PSCST led by Dr Tiwana visited the Tamil Naidu to study the de-pollution of water courses caused due to the heavy concentration of textile industry and recycling of the treated effluents for reuse through Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology. He said that the same technique could be replicated in the state.

He informed that almost 60 percent work for the cleansing of the Kali Bein had been executed and the entire project would be completed by the end of this year.
