Ambika Soni paints for 'India on Canvas' series

New Delhi, June 6 (UNI) After film stars, corporate and political leaders and socialites, it was today the turn of Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni to dabble in painting -- for a charitable cause.

Ms Soni wielded her brush with elan to as she took part in 'India on Canvas' painting series by making a painting with noted artist Madhavi Parekh here.

The painting depicts 'Shakti' (Goddess Durga) and Lion. The spontaneous work was completed in about an hour.

At the end of it, the minister said she was comfortable with the theme of the painting and enjoyed working with Ms Parekh.

The painting is to be auctioned in October in Mumbai for the benefit of Mumbai's street kids.

Famed artists from across the country have teamed up with stars from the tinsel world, corporate bigwigs and socialites to paint a series of works that will be auctioned at a grand finale in October.

The proceeds of the auction will be shared between the capital-based NGO 'Khushi' that works for underprivileged children and for the street children of Mumbai.

Nisha Jamvwal, the brain behind the project, says it is an auction for Mumbai, by the city's most prominent philanthropists.

Earlier, Bal Thackeray, Vijay Mallya, Yash Chopra, Madhur Bhandarkar, Jeh Wadia, Milind Deora, Parmeshwar Godrej, Preity Zinta and several other public figures have put brush to canvas for the project.

Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, Gauri Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Shilpa Shetty are also being considered for this noble cause to prove that if the affluent Mumbai has an ugly underbelly, it has also a soul.
