Akal Takht for checking anti-Sikh propaganda by imposters

Amritsar, June 6 (UNI) The Akal Takht today called upon all members of the Sikh faith to check the ''anti religious propaganda of elements responsible for distorting principles and tenets of Sikhism''.

''Imposters and arrogant people like the heads of sects like the Dera Sacha Sauda and Noormahalia and Piara Singh Bhaniarwale, who have often restored to distortion of Sikh scriptures should be countered effectively,'' Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vidanti said while addressing the Sikh community on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of 'Operation Bluestar', from the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs in the Golden Temple complex.

Pointing out that the Sikh Gurus had often resorted to an armed struggle, when ''all other means'' had failed, the Jathedar warned that the 'quam' (community) would not hestitate to follow the path showed by the Gurus.

'' But first an ideological and peaceful struggle would have to be launched to check the influence of the so-called saints'', he said while calling upon all Sikh institutions to launch a mass movement to imbibe the principles of Sikhism amongst the masses. In this context he refered to the vast majority of Sikh youth who had cut their hair short, which was strictly against the principles of Sikhism.

Pointing out that the history of the Sikhs was full of sacrifices, the Jathedar pointed out that members of the faith had never hesitated to come forward to defend the 'quam' and its principles.

'' We will continue to follow the path shown by the Gurus and seek guidance from the Akal Takht'', he said.

The Akal Takht would always guide the 'quam' in times of crisis, he added.
