88 kids rescued in Delhi brought to Howrah

Howrah, Jun 6: As many as 88 boys, rescued from different jewellery shops in New Delhi recently, were brought here this evening, Howrah district Magistrate Khalil Ahmed said tonight.

The boys, mostly from poor families of Howrah, East Midnapore and West Midnapore, have now been put in a childrens' home at Barasat, north 24-parganas, for safe custody, he told UNI.

He said the children, aged between 6 and 8, were traced by an NGO Bacpan Bachao Samity in New Delhi. It had informed him about the forced labour in different GEM and jewellery shops in the national capital.

Mr Ahmed said an investigation was on.
