Worries end for Mayawati in THC scam case
Lucknow, Jun 5 (UNI) The curtain was apparently rung down on the four-year-long Taj Heritage Corridor (THC) case as far as Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati was concerned when the CBI court today dropped proceedings against her in the multi-crore scandal after Governor T V Rajeswar refused sanction to prosecute her.
''Despite every attempt to malign my political and personal image, I finally got justice and proved all my detractors wrong,'' the UP Chief Minister told a crowded press conference this evening.
The order of the CBI court came after the central agency informed the special court (anti-corruption) that the Governor has refused his sanction to prosecute Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati as well as senior BSP minister Nasim-u-ddin Siddique. But at the same time, proceedings against four other accused would continue.
The Governor, who as the competent authority was required to give his sanction for her prosecution as per the provisions of section 197 of Criminal Procedure Code(CrPC), today submitted his decision after obtaining 250 pages legal opinion of Additional Solicitor General of India Gopal Subramaniam .
Mr Rajeswar has also mentioned that Chief Minister Mayawati had not committed any illegality in the matter.
'' ..... this Court has no jurisdiction either to take cognizance or to proceed further in respect of Ms Mayawati and Sri Naseemuddin Siddiqui in the case,'' the exhaustive order of the CBI court said.
