Women's forum demand enforcement of 'prohibition' act
Patna, June 5 (UNI) The Rashtriya Mahila Brigade today asked the Bihar government to enforce prohibition act to check growing cases of atrocities against women by inebriated in-laws.
Addressing members of the brigade, who staged a day-long dharna here in support of their demands, its state president Sushma Sinha said, ''Women had already suffered a lot due to this menace and they were no longer in a mood to give more time to the state government for taking steps in this direction.
''If the state government failed to take appropriate measures to check atrocities against women, we would soon launch an agitation on the issue to press the government for early acceptance of their demands,'' Ms Sinha said.
''Inspired by the views of Jay Prakash Narain on prohibition, the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai had strictly enforced the prohibition act throughout the country to check this menace,'' she recalled.
''As a true disciple of Mr Narain, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should take steps to fulfil his mentor's dreams and strictly enforce the prohibition act in the state,'' she added.
