VGH to promote floriculture in Bengal
Kolkata, Jun 5(UNI) In a bid to position Bengal as a floriculture hub Vikdas Green House(VGH), a unit of JSTG Pvt Ltd, will set up a modern biotechnology laboratory to conduct research on tissue-culture to develop high yeilding species of flowers, vegetables and fruits.
Speaking to mediapersons here today VGH Managing Director Gautam Chatterjee said the company would invest Rs seven crore in next one year. ''Out of this, we have already invested Rs five crore. Around Rs 1.5 crore will be invested for tissue-culture laboratory and Rs 1.25 in post-harvest management,'' he said.
''We are currently producing 2,000 Jerbera per day at the newly set green house in Arambag while it will be increased to 20,000 per day after the tissue-culture lab comes up,'' he said.
Equipped with drip irrigation system and automatic fertiliser application, temperature control, the facility would enable increasing Jerbera production in the state, he said.
Vikdas Green House has tied up with Calcutta University, Presidency College, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya and Vivekananda Centenary Collge.
UNI
