Two pairs of brothers and one father-son combination elected

Panaji, June 5 (UNI) The Electorate in Goa has elected a combination of a father and son and two pairs of brothers for the state legislative assembly.

While chief minister Pratapsingh Rane was elected from Poriem constituency in North Goa for the ninth successive term, his son Viswajit emerged victorious as an independent from Valpoi constituency.

He has opted to support the Congress-NCP combine. Viswajit had contested as an independent following denial of the party ticket under ''one ticket-one family'' norm after resigning from the Congress and the position of GPCC general secretary.

Save Goa Front chief Churchil Alemao, who led a solid campaign againt Congress and won from Navelim by defeating former chief minister Luizino Faleiro, had his brother and minister in Rane government Joaquim Alemao elected from Cuncolim in North Goa.

So were MGP's Housing minister Ramkrishn Dhavlikar from Markai and his brother Deepak from Priol in South Goa.

Subhash (JD-S), brother of law minister Dayand Narvekar (Aldona) was, however, defeated from Mapusa consituency by BJP's Francis D'Souza.
