Seven trains cancelled; efforts on to restore train services
New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) The Railway Ministry today said it was making serious efforts to restore normal train services on all the routes affected by the turmoil in Rajasthan caused in the wake of the Gujjar demand for ST status.
Because of the six-day-old violent agitation by the Gujjar community in Rajasthan, which was called off yesterday, train services were thrown out of gear, resulting in cancellation and rescheduling of several long-distance trains passing through the border state.
However, a total of seven trains were cancelled today even as the Railways began making serious efforts to restore train services.
A ministry official said North Western Railway cancelled four trains while East Central Railway, Western Railway and Eastern Railway cancelled one train each.
Among the trains cancelled today were the Jodhpur-Delhi Exp., Jaipur-Gwalior Exp., Jaipur-Indore Holiday Special, Rajendra Nagar (Patna)-Ajmer Exp., Ahmedabad-Haridwar Mail Exp. and Howrah-Jodhpur/Bikaner Express.
Yesterday, the Railways had cancelled ten long-distance trains, including some Rajdhanis and Shatabdis, passing through the state.
''We expect to restore normal train services in Rajasthan in a day or two,'' the official said.
