Mob beats up policemen in Sirmaur
Nahan, Jun 5 (UNI) Four policemen, including an inspector and a sub-inspector, were seriously injured after a mob of about 10 people attacked them in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh late last night, district ASP Rani Bindu Sachdeva today said.
SHO Khazan Ram, sub-inspector Subhash Chand and constables Rajender Singh and Nasib were beaten up by a mob of more than 10 people near petrol pump here at about 2300 hrs, she told reporters here.
Ms Sachdeva said the mob attacked the policemen with rods and sticks after they reached the petrol station where four people, identified as Banti, Vir Vikram, Mikki and Gagan were fighting among themselves.
On being directed not to fight, the youth first abused the policemen and then three of them went away before returning with more people and attacked the policemen, injuring them, she said.
The ASP said the culprits later fled from the scene and the police were only informed of the injured policemen lying on the streets on telephone by a passerby.
Three injured policemen have been admitted to a government hospital here, while one of the seriously injured has been referred to PGI at Chandigarh.
Ms Sachdeva said the accused have fled from their homes and the police have rounded a few of their relatives and efforts were on to locate them.
