Srinagar, Jun 5 (UNI) Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today foiled a militant plan to target a security force convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway when they stopped all traffic at Bijbehara after receiving information about car bomb.

The car with the bomb parked about 150 metres away from the police station on the highway exploded about 20 minutes, injuring two people, after the traffic, including security force convoy, was stopped on both sides at Bijbehara.

A CRPF spokesman told UNI that a tip-off was received at 1505 hours by 151 battalion that militants had planned to trigger a car bomb on the highway to target convoy.

He said the Commanding Officer (CO) and others immediately rushed to different directions to locate the car.

Spokesman said finally a car was seen parked at a crowded place on the roadside at Bijbehara, about 40 km here on the highway.

Immediately convoy and other traffic was stopped and civilians taken to safer places, he said, adding that before the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) could be summoned, there was a blast in the car injuring two persons.

It would have been a major disaster if the traffic would not have been stopped and civilians taken to safer place, he said.
