New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) A 40-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well in Connaught Place area of New Delhi this afternoon.

Surendra Kumar, a resident of Kolhapur Road near Kamala Market in Central Delhi, jumped into the well called 'Agrasen Ki Boli' on Hailey Road at about 1230 hours, said the guard posted at the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) controlled 'protected monument'.

''He came and said he wanted to throw some 'sikka' in the well, as often people do to get their wish fulfilled, and before I could return with the water he asked for, he was nowhere to be seen. Later I checked the well and found the water swirling and called the police,'' said the guard Rajpal.

Police said prima facie it looks to be a case of suicide as he couldn't have fallen in the well because of the about four-feet high wall around it, adding that his identity was known from the driving licence recovered from his pocket.

However, no suicide note has been found, they said.

The body was fished out about two hours later with the help of a local diver in the presence of the police and Fire Brigade.
