Lubricant oil in well; villagers stage road roko
Karur, June 5 (UNI) About 200 people of Chellandipalayam village today resorted to a 'road roko' agitation on the Karur-Tharapuram road, demanding action against those who had spilled waste lubricant oil in a drinking water well.
Police said some unidentified persons had poured the oil into the well, situated on the Amaravathy river bed in the village.
The mixing of oil with water had polluted the well from which the villagers draw water for cooking and drinking, police said.
The protestors called off their stir after revenue officials assured that necessary action would be taken against the culprits and also to bail out the polluted water.
