Krishna calls for evolving water management policy
Mumbai, June 5 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna today urged the industry, government agencies and non- governmental organisations to create a synergy for framing a water resource management policy of national level.
Speaking at a workshop on ''Water Scenario for Indian Business'' organised on the ocassion of ''World Environment Day'', Mr Krishna stressed the management of water resources in India is crucially important to sustain the needs of one billion people.
The seminar was attended by various NGOs working in the field of water management in the country.
Mr Ashok Jaitely, distinguished fellow, Tata Energy Research Institute(TERI), while delivering the keynote address emphasised that water management is a composite area with linkages to various sectors of Indian economy including the agricultural, industrial, domestic and household, power, environment, fisheries and transportation sectors.
Mr Jaitely pointed out that in several areas of the country like Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu ground water levels are perilously low.
