Srinagar, Jun 5 (UNI) After Gujjars in Rajasthan, it is now the turn of Paharis in Jammu and Kashmir to demand the Scheduled Tribes (ST) status for the community.
A deputation of Paharis from the border area of Uri called on former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed here today and sought ST status for the community.
The Paharis said the Gujjars and Bakerwals of Jammu and Kashmir were already enjoying the ST status.
The deputation thanked and appreciated the efforts of Mr Sayeed and his party for opening the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road and making the travel of divided families across the Line of Control (LoC) easy and affordable.
The PDP patron assured the deputation that he would pursue the issue raised by Paharis at the highest level.
