Help at hand to protect against mobile phone radiation

New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) Flaunting high-end lifestyle gizmos and gadgets -- mobile phones, computers, iPods and microwave ovens -- may have become both fashionable and indispensable for status-conscious households, but these are surely coming at a price.

The Electro-Magnetic Radiation (EMR), which is emitted by these gadgets, has emerged as one of the most formidable forms of pollution and a major health hazard.

In particular, the ubiquitous cell phone, which provides round the clock connectivity, is wreaking havoc on the human body --- silently but incessantly, point out a series of researches.

A solution is now at hand. In order to protect against harmful effects of radiation, the capital-based Cogent EMR Solutions has developed anti-radiation mobile chip, mobile case and mobile heart guard, besides computer cover, radiation guard film and apron.

The shielding effectiveness of these anti-radiation equipment has been certified by the Chennai-based Sameer Centre for Electromagnetics, the only company approved by the Union Communications and Information Technology Ministry.

''It is a new millennium state of the art technology that can very effectively stop incoming radiation by reflecting and refracting it,'' says V S Tanwar, Director (Technical) of Cogent, an ISO 9001:2002 certified company.

Cell phone is kept most of the time either in the chest pocket or trouser pocket. Even if it is not in use, it still interferes with the nearby connection towers and emitted radiation can be harmful to the area of human body close to the cell phone.

''This can lead to disturbance in the heart beat patterns because the natural electrical pacemakers interfere with the artificial radiation generated through mobile communication,'' says Mr Tanwar.

Doctors, journalists and business executives in particular, because of the nature of their work, require to keep mobile phones with them 365 days a year and are more prone to the radiation.

Mobile phones can now be put in a case that is made of anti-radiation material. Anti-radiation mobile chip, which has to be fixed on the voice receiving area of a mobile phone, protects brain and ear tissues from harmful radiation.

Similarly, microwave oven emits harmful radiation. Going near the microwave when it is on or within seconds of switching it off is dangerous for health. This can be averted by wearing the anti-radiation apron, which is made of radiation safety material woven into the fabric.
