ESG organises workshop to inoculate film culture among Goans
Panaji, June 5 (UNI) Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), the nodal agency organiser of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in this tourist state, has organised a three-day workshop on film appreciation from June 8.
Milind Mahale, film programmer with ESG, told UNI that the workshop will be held with the aim of introducing citizens of Goa to the medium of varied audiovisual.
He said former Dean of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Samar Nakhate will be the course advisor.
''The only criteria for joining the three-day course is that the applicant has to be 18-years of age and above. There are 45 seats and the admission will be on first come first serve basis to all including film critics, students, film researchers, journalists, government officials handling film and others interested in film studies,'' Mr Mahale said, adding that the participants would get to watch the best Indian and foreign films for three days with the experts.
Organised through prepared programmes of lectures and screenings, this initiative is intended to be a forward movement in promoting film culture in Goa, he said.
Participants will be offered an excellent opportunity to gain an overview in the field of film appreciation through lectures combined with informal discussions periods, he informed.
Some of the topics to be discussed will include elements of film appreciation, history and language of cinema, film and traditional art forms, art versus commercial cinema, changing technology of cinema and government policies, he said.
Mr Mahale said it is for the first time since its inception in 2004, the ESG is organising a film appreciation workshop.
''This is just an initiative. We will hold more such workshops like screenplay, editing, depending on the response to the first initiative,'' he said.
The workshop will be held at the ESG, Old GMC Heritage precinct in Panaji, which houses the offices of Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) during the IFFI since 2004.
