Election results: Rejection of communal forces

Bangalore, Jun 5 (UNI) Congress today termed its party candidate's victory in Ullal Assembly byelection nothing but the rejection of communal forces in power in Karnataka, Pradesh Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge said.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the coalition partners BJP and JD(S), who had put their 16-month rule at stake in the bypoll, miserably failed in the attempt to defeat Congress.

He said both Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa took lead in campaigning for their respective party candidates and made several false promises to the people to win election.

Mr Kharge said the party's success had proved unity in Congress Senior Congress leader and Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly N Dharam Singh said the victory had demonstrated party's strong base in the state.
