DGP Mohanti to be arrested only on requisition : Naveen

Bhubaneswar, June 5 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said that Director General of Police (Home Guard) B B Mohanti will be arrested only after a requisition from the Rajasthan government was received.

Responding to the Opposition's allegation in the state assembly that the government was protecting the DGP, who is wanted by the Rajasthan police in connection with abetting his son Bitti Mohanti, convicted in a rape case jump parole, Mr Patnaik said so far, no requisition has been received from there to hand over the official.

He said whenever the police team from Rajasthan arrived, full cooperation had been extended to them.

The jurisdiction of the Orissa police for arresting of Mr Mohanti would commence only when there is a requisition from the Rajasthan government to do so, the Chief Minister said.

He assured the house that once such a requisition was received, the government would not shield him. The Chief Minister was replying to the opposition sponsored motion on the law and order situation in the state.
