Congress leader injured in Kashmir firing
Srinagar, June 5 (UNI) A senior Congress leader and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan were injured when militants attacked the former's guarded house at Shopian in south Kashmir last night.
A CRPF spokesman told UNI that militants attacked the house of Congress block president Mohammad Shafi Banday at Shopian last night at 2130 hours.
The CRPF personnel, guarding the house retaliated and the encounter continued for about ten minutes.
Mr Banday received three bullet wounds while a jawan also suffered injuries in the encounter, he said, adding that the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The Congress leader was admitted to Bone and Joint hospital at Barzulla where he was operated upon by the doctors. He is out of danger, the spokesman added.
