BMC education to get budget estimates of Rs 1100 crores

Mumbai, Jun 5 (UNI) The budget proposed for Education in the BMC schools and other activities related to education is Rs 1,100 crores for the year 2007-08.

The students will be given various incentives for studying in an BMC school that includes free uniforms, free education starting from Class I to Class VII in 8 different languages such as Marathi, Hindi, Gujrati, Urdu, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada and English, free food, school items and flavoured milk.

The BMC-runs schools for the mentally challenged students and at present around 800 students are taking benefit of the scheme.

The BMC has proposed Rs one crore for girl students who want to complete higher education.

The students will be given free educational material to the students of Class I to X, and since the students till Class VII are given free text books, the remaining students will be given free books and the BMC has proposed Rs 85 lakhs for the boys and Rs 64 lakhs for the girls. The BMC has proposed Rs 66.48 crores for providing the students of BMC-run schools with free uniform, shoes, socks, badge compass box and other educational material to the Primary and Secondary schools and Rs 7.64 crores for the Municipal public schools.

The BMC has also proposed Rs 88.30 crores for giving free flavoured milk to the students of primary and secondary schools and Rs 10.18 crores for the students of Mumbai Public schools.

Moreover to increase the attendance of girl students in the Municipal schools, the BMC has proposed to give Re 1 per day for attending school from this academic year.
