BJP Parliamentary Board reviews outcome of Goa elections
New Delhi, Jun 5 (UNI) The BJP Parliamentary Board, the apex decision making body, today appointed senior leader Gopinath Munde to oversee the process of election of the BJP Legislature Party leader in Goa.
The Board, which reviewed the defeat of the party in Goa and UP Assembly elections, asked Mr Munde to go to Panaji and supervise the BJP legislators to elect their leader, former Union Minister Anant Kumar told reporters after the meeting convened in a short notice.
The meeting, presided over by party President Rajnath Singh, was attended, among others, by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani, former Union Ministers M M Joshi, Ms Sushma Swaraj and Anant Kumar.
Expressing happiness over the victory of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency, Mr Kumar said Mr Dhumal had won by 80,000 votes. The BJP had more votes in 15 of the 17 Assembly segments. Besides, the party also won two byelections in Chhattishgarh.
However, the party's defeat in Ulaal byelections in Karnataka and Shivpuri by-polls in Madhya Pradesh would be analysed and corrective steps would be taken, Mr Kumar said.
The BJP's Madhya Pradesh Executive, to be held on June 12, would take stock of reasons for the party's defeat in Shiv puri, he added.
When pointed out why the party was losing elections one after the other like in UP and now in Goa, Mr Kumar said the party took such things in its stride. "It analyses wins and defeats and marches ahead," he added.
