BJP coming out of UP debacle: Prasad

New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) Coming out of the shadows of its UP debacle, the BJP today said that the results of various byelections in the country and Goa assembly polls were very encouraging.

The BJP is expecting to emerge as a single largest party in Goa where the party has secured 14 of the 40 assembly seats so far, BJP Spokesman Ravishankar Prasad told newspersons after a meeting of party General Secretaries this noon.

The Parliamentary Board will take a detailed view of the Goa results and decide upon the strategy after the entire results are out, he said.

He said the party had secured both the byelections in Chhattisgarh winning Khairghar and Mankhurda (SC) constitutencies by huge margins. The party had wrested the tribal seat from Congress for the first time after Independence, he said.

In Hamirpur, Lok Sabha byelection in Himachal Pradesh, the party candidate had established a decisive and unassilable lead over his nearest rival.

All the General Secretaries excluding Arun Jaitley and Vinay Katiyar attended the meeting. The former is not in the country while the latter could not attend the meeting because of a death in his family.
