Basu-Mamata meet following pressure by industrial houses:SUCI
Kolkata, Jun 5 (UNI) SUCI today said yesterday's meeting between veteran marxist Jyoti Basu and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was held at the behest of industrial houses.
''The Trinamool Congress is trying to protect their base in the coming panchayat election, while the ruling CPI(M) is trying to protect the interest of industrial houses like the Tata and Salim group. Both parties have digressed from the Singur and Nandigram issues by holding this secret meeting,'' SUCI state secretary Ashoke Ghosh told news persons here.
He accused Ms Banerjee of adopting a double standard in her land acquisition movement.
''The Trinamool chief met the former CPI(M) chief minister while walking out of a ruling party convened all-party meeting,'' he commented.
He alleged that a Trinamool leader secretly met the Khejuri CPI(M) leader on May 31 to ensure that the SUCI, Jamait-I-Hind and the Bhumi Ucchhed Pratirodh Committee were not invited to the all party meet.
He said peace in Nandigram was possible only by a sustained movement which these parties had been carrying on.
He also demanded the arrest of culprits involved in the March 14 incident and providing rehabilitation package to the affected people before calling any all-party meeting.
