Aurobindo Pharma gets USFDA nod for Cefpodoxime

New Delhi, June 5: Pharmaceutical company Aurobindo Pharma today said it has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to manufacture and market oral suspension Cefpodoxime proxetil.

The company has received the approval to manufacture Cefpodoxime proxetil in the strengths of 50mg and 100mg. This is the sixth Cephalosporin approval for the company.

With this the company has representation in each of the first three generations of Cephalosporin antibiotics. Cefpodoxime is the generic version of Pharmacia Upjohn's Vantin, a statement said.

Cefpodoxime is mostly used to treat acute otitis media, community acquired Pneumoniae, Uncomplicated Urinary tract infections and also skin infections.
