AP BJP hits out at Cong Govt on poor farmers

Tirupati, June 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh BJP President Bandaru Dattatreya today accused the ruling Congress Government of reneging on its election promises of providing easy loan facilities to poor farmers and protecting them from harassment by private financiers.

Speaking to newsmen here, he claimed even in Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's constituency Kadapa, poor farmers were arrested for not repaying loans taken from private financiers and said they must be provided finance at low interest rates. Otherwise his party would launch an agitation.

The BJP had constituted a committee to conduct a survey on the farmers who were in jail for their failure to repay loans. Based on its report, the party would chalk out a programme for agitation.

Mr Dattatreya also accused the government of focusing on minorities for votes.
