3 ultras among 4 killed, Cong leader injured,11 surrender in J

Srinagar, Jun 5 (UNI) Four people, including three militants, were killed, a senior Congress leader was injured while ten ultras surrendered and another was arrested in the Jammu and Kashmir.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today foiled a militant plan to target security force convoy on Srinagar-Jammu national highway when they stopped the traffic at Bijbehara after receiving the information about car bomb.

An official spokesperson said militants attacked the house of a District Congress President Abdul Majid Banday at Shopian in south Kashmir last night. The CRPF personnel guarding the house also retaliated and in the encounter Mr Banday and a CRPF jawan were injured. The injured were hospitalised. However, the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

He said Army and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police conducted a joint operation against militants at village Chudipora in Shopian district in south Kashmir today.

During the operation an encounter took place in which a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant Shiraz Ahmad Mir was killed. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

Two more militants were gunned down in a similar encounter at Bandipora. One AK rifle, four magazines, 30 rounds of ammunition and five grenades were recovered from the slain militants, spokesperson added.

A 14-year-old boy Basit Ramzan was injured critically when an exploded device, he was fiddling with, exploded in his house at Dachan, Bandipora, today. He was immediately rushed to hospital where he died.

A CRPF spokesperson told UNI that the car with the bomb was parked about 150 metres away from the police station on the highway exploded about 20 minutes, injuring two people, after the traffic, including security force convoy, was stopped on both sides at Bijbehara.

He said a tip off was received at 1505 hours by 151 batallion that militants had planned to trigger a car bomb on the highway to target convoy.

The Commanding Officer (CO) and other ranks immediately rushed to different directions to locate the car, added that finally a car was seen parked at a crowded place on the roadside at Bijbehara, about 40 km here on the highway.

Immediately the convoy and other traffic were stopped and civilians taken to safer places, he said, that adding before the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) could be summoned, there was a blast in the car injuring two people.

It would have been a major disaster if the traffic would not have been stopped and civilians taken to safer place, he said.
