We may come to power if 14 councillors disqualified: BMC Oppn leader
Mumbai, Jun 4 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Rajhans Singh today said the party was likely to come to power if 14 corporators, recently elected to the civic body are disqualified.
The election officer of BMC has disqualified 14 corporators for submitting fake caste certificates and is seeking replies from them in this regard. All the 14 corporators have approached the High Court, which has given them relief till June 9 this year.
''If the corporators are disqualified, we may come to power as 5 corporators are from Shiv Sena, 1 from BJP and their total number will come down from 84 to 79,'' Mr Singh said.
He said they would have an alliance with NCP, MNS, SP, RPI and BSP and form a majority in the BMC.
Mangesh Satamkar, the Education Committee Chairman of the BMC and Shiv Sena's group leader said, ''All the corporator's have approached the court and let us see what is decided in the court as we are confident that our corporators have not done anything wrong.'' He further added that if the decision goes against the Shiv Sena, then there will be by-election in these wards.
