Rains lash city for fourth consecutive day

Nashik, June 4 (UNI) A woman was killed as heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, continued to lash the North Maharashtra district for a fourth consecutive day today, disrupting Rail and road traffic and throwing normal life out of gear.

Low-lying areas were waterlogged and vehicular movement was disrupted in many parts of the city. Traffic on the busy Nashik-Mumbai Highway was badly affected and a landslide in Kasara Ghat resulted in snapping of overhead wires last evening, disrupting Rail traffic for over six hours. Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Igatpuri, Nasik and Manmad.

The Rains also lashed Trimbakeshwar, Ojhar and Satara towns of the district. The woman, along with two others, was hit by lightening in Hirdi village in Trimbakeshwar and she died on the spot.

In many parts of Nashik city, several vehicles developed engine failure due to waterlogging. The city also experienced power failure, with some areas in darkness for several hours. In some parts, the MSEB had to cut off the power supply as water entered the transformers.

In Bhadrakali area of the city, some shops were damaged due to heavy rains. Two persons were trapped under debris but they were rescued by the people.

An autorikshaw was damaged as a tree collapsed on it.

On Gangapur road, some vehicles were damaged due to collapse of a compound wall.

As soon as the Kurla-Manmad Godavari Express was nearing Kasara ghat last evening, heavy boulders fell on the track in front of the train. The train had to be detained for more than two hours.

There was some respite in Nashik this afternoon as the rains subsided and shops and business establishments opened for the day.
