Haryana to spend Rs 2 crore on drainage system in 4 districts

Chandigarh, June 4 (UNI) The Haryana Government has made a budget provision of Rs 2 crore to develop about 1000 hectares of area in Jhajjar, Bhiwani, Sonepat and Sirsa districts during the current financial year.

While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that an area of about 1000 hectares would be developed through the Sub Surface Drainage System scheme.

He said that similarly under the 'Soil Conservation on Watershed Basis' scheme, a budget provision of Rs 49.50 lakh had been made and a package of soil and water conservation practices based on scientific principles and modern management techniques would be provided. This scheme would be implemented throughout the state, he added.

He said that the execution of the soil conservation scheme would be carried out on micro watershed basis. It includes activities like catchment treatment, repair and desiltation of old dams.

It would also include construction of silt detention dams, check dams, cement masonry structures and other structures to control erosion in ecologically fragile areas and riverbanks. The other activities to be carried out under this scheme were gully plugging, vegetative barriers and digging of trenches for water conservation, he added.
