Govt to revive Driver Training Schools

Tiruchirapalli, June 4 (UNI) As part of its initiative to recruit well-trained drivers in the state transport corporation's buses, the Tamil Nadu Government today decided to revive Driver Training Schools across the state, shortly.

Speaking to newspersons here State Transport Minister K N Nehru said the government has decided to restart the Driver Training Schools in 18 Transport Corporations, which were closed during the AIADMK regime. Preliminary works had already begun in this regard, he added.

He said the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) had decided to procure 100 air-conditioned buses. While 50 air-conditioned buses would be allotted to the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC), the rest to its other corporations.

Similarly, the Transport Ministry had placed orders for Ultra Deluxe model buses numbering 300 and Low Floor buses numbering 268 and the delivery of them was expected within six months.

These buses would also be shared among the 18 transport corporations and Chennai city would get more allocations of Low Floor buses. The Ministry was also planning to procure 100 Vestibule and ten units of Volvo buses in near future, he added.

He said out of the 3,000 ordinary buses to be procured in the current fiscal year, already 600 chassis had been delivered and among them 100 chassis were ready. He was hopeful that within three months, 600 to 700 buses would be deployed and the entire order was to be completed before the fourth quarter of the year.
