Govt has nothing to do with demolition notice to AIADMK: CM
Chennai, Jun 4 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said the state government had nothing to do with the notice served for 'demolition' of AIADMK headquarters for violation of law.
Answering a set of questions, the Chief Minister said till Ms Jayalalithaa issued a statement about this yesterday, neither he nor the minister concerned was aware of the issue.
He said the notice had been sent as per the decision of the monitoring committee following the court order and it was not necessary on the part of the committee to inform the state government about this.
On whether the notice was final, he said those who had received such notices could approach the committee and offer necessary clarifications by submitting documents and it was for the committee, constitued by the court to take a final decision.
The government had no say in this, he said adding ''in fact, Ms Jayalalithaa's statement, attributing motives for issuing the notice, amounted to contempt of court, he said.
He said it was open to Ms Jayalalithaa to prove before newspersons if the AIADMK headquarters was built in accordance to the law.
In the year 2000 itself it was pointed out that the party office had been built without proper permission and in violation of all rules.
After coming to power in 2001, Ms Jayalalithaa, who was in power for five years, could have obtained the necessary permission. But having remained silent, she was now making a hue and cry, the Chief Minister added.
