CITU submits three-point memorandum to Parliamentary Committee

Gangtok, June 4 (UNI) The Sikkim unit of Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) today submitted a three-point memorandum to the 19-member Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) on Labour.

CITU sources here said in its memorandum demanded by CITU for the enforcemet of the Trade Union Act, 1926, to safeguard the interests of the working classes, enforcement of Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, abolition of contract labour system and outsourcing employement in the state.

Sikkim CITU general secretary Manoj Kumar Gupta submitted the memorandum to PSC chairman S S Reddy.

Meanwhile, the Central Committee of GREF Labour Union, Darjeeling, also submitted a memorandum to the PSC alleging that the GREF labourers were denied their constitutional rights despite several petitions.

The union appealed to the PSC to look into their problems such as arrear payments and medical facilities.

Besides, the Yuksom Breweries Labour Association submitted a memorandum to the PSC accusing the Yuksom Breweries management of denying the rights of its labourers.

Speaking to newspersons after their discussions with the PSC, the CITU general secretary said Mr Reddy had assured that he would convince the state government to enforce the Act and submit a report in this regard to the Parliament.

Mr Gupta said the PSC had reacted against the allegation of the BRO officials that there was no BRO labour union in the state and would send a showcause notice to the BRO after their return to Delhi.
