Chennai, Jun 4 (UNI) Madras High Court today directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools in Tamil Nadu to furnish particulars of students admitted by them to Plus One- XI standard within two weeks.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Mr Justice P Jyothimani, who gave the above direction, also directed the DAV Boys Senior Secondary School, DAV Girls Senior Secondary School, DAV Senior Secondary School, P S Senior Secondary School, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, Nungambakkam and Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, K K Nagar to furnish particulars about the admission of CBSE students in their respective schools, before the next hearing date June 8, 2007.

The Bench also said it was needless to say that the CBSE was directed to ensure that all CBSE schools in the state comply with the directions issued by the court by an order dated April 27, 2007.

On a Public Interest Litigation filed by Prof.Dr S Anandalakshmy, seeking a direction to the CBSE schools to ensure that all students of Class X in a school affilated to the CBSE board be admitted to class XI in their own school to the groups of their choice, the Bench had on April 27 passed an interim order.

In its April 27 interim order, the Bench while directing the CBSE schools to follow the guidelines suggested by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, also said the schools must display the number of seats in class XI in each stream on the notice board and website, if any, of the schools. The admission procedure, including the list of all the candidates of the respective schools who had applied, the merit list, if any, list of provisionally selected candidates and the criteria followed for admission shall also be displayed on the notice board. The Schools shall also communicate this information to the parents of the students in class X, the Bench added.

Among various guidelines, the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development also suggested that schools can admit students provisionally in class XI on the basis of their performance in class IX and X, subject to their passing class X board examination and meeting the required standard of performance in different subjects.

This process should be carried out in a transparent manner. Once the students are admitted to Class XI with a particular combination of subjects, they should not be forced to change their subjects after the declaration of results of class X board examination. However, change of subjects was permitted on the request of the concerned students and parents. The Ministry also prescribed the criteria and the norms to be followed by the schools in all matters of admission to class XI.
