UP: Roadmap to sell Nawab brand of mango
Lucknow, June 3: The Uttar Pradesh government has embarked upon an ambitious mission to promote its 'Nawab' brand of mango in the national market.
Official sources told sources here that the government has planned to distribute and promote mangoes through exporters who would soon hold exhibitions in Bangaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Chandigarh.
In the ongoing mango season, the government would ensure that each mango exported to national and international market weighs between 175 gm to 325 gm. While standard fixed for Dussehri mango is 175 gm, it is 325 gm each for Langda and Chausa.
Inspired by export of UP mangoes to Japan after a gap of nearly two decades, the state government has made pesticide sampiling by a recognised body mandatory. At present only Chausa and Langda varieties are approved for export to Japan.
All mangoes bound for Japanese markets will also have to undergo vapour heat treatment (VHT). For the purpose; a VHT plant has been set up in Saharanpur-based packing house. APEDA has provided Rs 9.17 crore.
Meanwhile, state Agriculture produce and export minister Indrajit Saroj said more decisions to improve the sale of 'Nawab' brand of mangoes are in the offing after the National Horticulture meet proposed in the state capital later this month.
UP has christened the various kinds of mangoes grown in the state as 'Nawab' for the purpose of export and promotion.
