Punjab farmer gets, 70 quintals onion from half acre
Ludhiana, May 3 (UNI) A farmer of Khamano in Fathegarh Sahib district has created a record from sorts by getting a yield of 70 quintals of onion from just half an acre of land.
Agri experts from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), who visited the farm of Prem Singh, found that five onions out of the 70-quintal heap weighed two kg each.
According to Mr Singh quality nursery and scientific method paved the way for such a produce. Deciding to float the yield in markets beyond Khamano, he informed that he had also developed a nutrition garden on the lines recommended by PAU.
''If a farmer sweats out in the fields himself, his hard work pays off,'' he added.
